Angel Funding Opportunities for SMEs

A seminar on Business Angel Programme co-organized by iProA and HMSiCA was held on 12-Jan. Speakers Mr. Neil Orvay and Mr. Tim Hay-Edie, Joint Chairmen of Hong Kong British Chamber of Commerce’s Angel Investment Committee, introduced to our members a Business Angel Funding Programme, which was sponsored by renowned international audit firm Baker Tilly, HK office.

Under this program, the Chamber lines up some angel investors from HK to provide Angel Funding to prospective SMEs run/ start-up by HK people. The Chamber will play the match-making role in lining up the investors and applicants via performing first round assessment and screening of applications, followed by interviewing with the short-listed candidates. The Chamber will not take role in the actual funding and will not receive any charge from the investors nor the applicants.

The investors are looking for Angel investments of size US$50,000 to US$500,000 (for each funded company) in return for 30%-50% share of the invested company.

The application deadline is 12-Feb-2010. Applicants are expected to submit an application form together with a TWO- PAGE business proposal. About 12 applications will be short listed to provide a 10- MINUTE presentation + 20- MINUTE Q&A/Recommendation for first round assessment. About 8 candidates will be selected for presenting to the Investors, which would end up with about 4 finalists successfully getting funding.
